I woke up early and had my usual race day breakfast of eggs and toast. It is just a little less than a 30 minute drive for me to Granite Beach, today’s race venue. I arrived about an hour before race start. After picking up my race packet I completed my warm-up, used the restroom, and headed to the start line. I couldn’t have asked for better weather, 60 degrees with some cloud cover. The race start got delayed by 5-10 minutes due to a crash on the course. Once the race started I positioned myself in the front of the pack which consisted of Cody Schwartz, Sean Dickie, Jake Yackle, and myself. Near the beginning of the second lap Cody had caught back up to us along with Liam Ruff, who rides for Nevada Union High School. For the second lap of the race it was us five in the front until the beginning of the third lap when Cody, Jake and myself were able to pull away. By the end of the third lap Cody and I had pulled away from Jake and we rode together for the remainder of the race. In the last few minutes of the race I made a move and started to sprint. Cody was right on my wheel when we entered the final single track section. However Cody slid out on one of the final turns and finished in second. I am super excited to have ended up with my first pro win in a time of 2:01:16. I would also like to congratulate my teammates who also competed today: Matthew Balzer, Kara LaPoint, Suzie Snyder, Tim Milton, Nathan Brown, and Craig Manning. All in all another great day of racing out at Granite Bay.
