XTERRA Lake Tahoe

Race morning came early with a breakfast of Fried eggs and a toasted bagel. After finishing at the campground we left for the race venue which was at the Hyatt in incline village. Upon arriving at the race I proceeded to pick up my packet and begin setting up my transition area. After I was medone in transition I got changed into my wetsuit and headed down to the water. I was pretty excited for the swim because of the recent increase in the amount of swimming that I was doing. After arriving at the b
each I got into the water to get myself acclimated to the temperature. I had been in the water for a few minutes when they called all of the athletes to the beach to start the race. Once the race started I felt great and was up front for a little bit. However towards the end of the first lap I began falling back. During the second lap my position remained mostly constant. I came out of the water with a swim time of 28:30 which was a huge improvement in the swim over last year. Despite having a great swim for myself I was still quite far back going into the bike. Leaving transition I knew that I had a lot of time to make up. Once I got to the Tunnel Creek Rd climb I began to pass people left and right. By the time that I got to the flume trail I was in 4th place. After completing the flume trail and getting to Marlett Lake I took off and
before I knew it I wame2s at the top of
the final hill and was in 2nd place. After completing the bike I arrived into T2 with the second fastest bike of the day of 1:43:15. By the time I started my run I knew that it was a race for second because my teammate Matthew Balzer was almost 10 full minutes
ahead of me. The run went well, I felt great finishing the first lap and focused on trying to hold my pace through the second lap. I finished in second place with a run time of 45:59 and had a total time of 3:02:25. I beat my time from last year by 3 minutes and am really happy with my performance. I would also like to give a congratulation to my teammates. Matthew Balzer, Nathan Brown, and Curtis Duncan who finished 1st, 5th, and 8th. I had a great race and am excited to see how I perform at Utah for the XTERRA USA Championships.
