The XTERRA Real triathlon on Saturday was a Great day of racing with TBF out at Granite Bay. Going into the race I didn’t have any expectations on where I would finish due to may lack of running and swimming. After getting my transition area set up I headed down to the lake for the start of the race. Arriving late to the water, my warm up consisted of getting in and partially adjusting to the water. Despite having a poor warm-up I was able to finish the swim with an okay time of 14:11. After getting on the bike I felt great and started to play catch-up from my swim. My goal during the bike was to try and catch up to my teammate Matt Balzer who had finished the swim about 3 minutes ahead of me. I was able to finish the bike with the fastest time of the day in 1:07:27. After leaving transition I felt strong, however after a couple minutes my back started to hurt. I began to significantly slow down. At about mile 3 of the run my back pain started to diminish and I began to speed up. I finished the run in with a time of 31:44 and a total time of 1:53:22. I ended up 6th overall and 1st in my age group. I would like to congratulate my teammate Matt Balzer on the overall win and my other teammates who raced Tim Milton, Nathan Brown, and Jamie Merry.
